Not all millennials sit at home and complaining about being poor

None of that is necessarily true. Anecdotally- I do FEEL like a lot of younger folks aren’t terribly “handy” but I don’t have any statistics to back that- and it’s not just millennials- gen X as well. But as the meme implies- tiles change. Even if you know where to get parts- working on your EV or hybrid in the driveway can literally kill you- more people own cars under warranty now anyway which makes working on it yourself somewhat pointless- and cars are so complex now that many of the modifications to improve them in any meaningful way aren’t within the skills or knowledge of a DIY person. The same with many common items- and things like furniture and appliances and such are more and more designed to be “disposable” so repairing the TV or refinishing a table is kinda out.

On that subject- where will most younger folks carry out these projects that often all but require large open spaces? And say what you will about how much “harder” things were back when- but the majority of middle class Americans were almost guaranteed a 40 hour work week- not the 50,60+ common to this generation.

While there we should mention that even IF on average millennials are “less handy” they also tend to be more tech savvy and able to take care of problems older generations couldn’t or wouldn’t with electronics and digital devices. They also have led a resurgence of hobbies and artisanal crafts. Anecdotally again- I suspect you’re more likely to find millennial males taking up a greater share of “housework” and such.

Of course- I also do not know that it is true to say that boomer blacksmiths don’t hold up to antiquity. I’ve met some damn fine black smiths- and knowledge of the trade, sciences, advances in tools and materials over hundreds of years means that even a relative novice using modern means could make things with strength and complexity only achievable by master smiths if that.

I am only one in my family besides my dad who is comfortable using tools that could potentially saw off hands, fingers, arms, toes, feet, legs, and is somewhat proficient in their use. It annoyed me so much because during a summer day where we all were working around the house, cleaning, weeding, fixing up various things I would be called over to go grab some specific tool despite my dad having two of my brothers to fetch them for him since they had no fucking clue what he was talking about.
