Years of owning cats has taught me that one of these cats will try to jump onto the top pillow, grab onto it with it's claws, and then topple into oblivion when the pillow slides off the edge

Maybe if you sew some loops at every angle of the cushion and make a knot around the shelf bars the kitty will b climbing safely?
