I have met plenty who can’t be near fireworks. Not everyone has PTSD some can do multiple tours of duty and come out same as they went in.
Than some can go though just the one and come out so bad they become shut ins.
I know one man who saw the man standing right next to him blow up and he wakes up at night saying he can see blood all over him and can hear the guns. He doesn’t feel right unless he takes a shower to wash off the blood that isn’t even there.
It breaks my heart because he was such a sweet loving guy before. He wanted to make home made kids toys for a living. Now he can’t be near his own machines because they give him flash backs.
I've met a few. They all had one thing in common: a missing limb. Luckily (relative) they were all in TX instead of TN, cuz the entire week before the 4th would be a straight nightmare for them... as fireworks just go off for what seems like forever. Dallas has zoning laws against that noise.
Growing up in Lubbock Tx we weren’t allowed anything bigger than sparklers. My Dad was a state fire marshal and my mom used to tell the neighbors we promised to lock him in the closet so they could have fire works.
But here in California every street is filled with fireworks.
Mental checks are only good for those who can't act, don't know what the right answers are, and most of all, they only tell a person's mental state at that moment in time.
the military only wants those to serve, they don't care about afterwards, only if they will cause bad press, they are rejected, others accepted and left with ptsd cause they couldn't handle it. It's better, long term, for those to never have signed up in the first place.
A psych test in the military makes as much sense as wasting years trying to get a rat talking; he's never gonna have the vocal cords for it... this is just a waste of time. I'm not saying mental health should be tossed out the window, I'm just sayin' it's downright perplexed and useless because they were insane in the first place.
