A few years back, when we knew the dog we had back then didn't have much time left, we let her sit in on our table grill meals. We grilled pieces of steak and sausages, let them cool down and she gobbled it all up, while we sat in silent tears.

It's so strange that we are all ok with euthanasia for pets but not for people who want it and have a good reason.
