Basically @demryn and I discovered her and declared her our pet. We've been feeding her ever since, and she's already had at least 3 molts (one can be seen in the upper right corner). She's a cross spider and her name is Leggies :)
We had a pet spider for a while one fall. But she lived outside on the porch. We felt really bad for it because it was missing a bunch of legs and it’s web was so pitiful. At first we tried to throw insects into the web but the web was so bad it couldn’t catch things. So my spouse caught a thing and held it up near the spider. It was amazing because the spider reached out with all of of her legs and took the insect from my spouse. The next night, when feeding the spider my spouse felt the brush of the spiders mouth. After that we decided we needed to use gloves!
We fed the spider every other night for a week or so, until she was able to build a web that could catch prey. It was around that time that the spider would shy away and not come close to take offerings anymore.
But it was neat to nurse it back to health. At first it had turned really dark was a little bit shriveled. But as we fed it, it started to Regain it’s bright color and fill out.
No, she's still growing. But at first she was to small for the camera to focus and now she is so big that you can see the stripes on the legs. It's very interesting to observe
@happy_frog we just couldn't contain ourselves anymore and had to post her because she had such a big jump in growth since the last molt. First photo was only the 17th of June. And they can get as old as 3 years.
