Never do the right thing like snitching on your fellow cop, the chief is gonna take THEIR side, not yours

Yeah. That’s part of the problems we are facing in many uniformed professions, but especially topically with police and to a lesser extent the military. The culture frowns on “tattling” and if your chief or CO doesn’t take their side and they face discipline- good odds you’ll be “marked” as someone others don’t trust or want to work with- perhaps even someone who others are hostile, even dangerously so, towards.

An old piece of advice I got that sadly- has been pretty true in my many varied years of work... no one will trust you if they don’t have some dirt because “everyone” has dirt. It’s partially the “glass houses throwing stones” thing- the guy cheating his time sheets can’t rat on the guy who naps on the slow shift- and so on; because if you both have each other’s dirt- you’d self destruct by ratting on them.
