i know this will start a fire (sorry cali) but uh how fine is the line between representation and pandering. like i was pretty sure the goal was that a character in any media could just BE [insert identity here] and there wouldn't be hubbub about it because "it's not the right kind of representation".
I’ve discussed this before with some friends and it’s about how they’re portrayed. If it’s very on the nose, and their character doesn’t have much of a personality and isn’t really doing anything, it’s pandering. They did it only for the check mark in the box
