This is actually pretty important considering I'm debating getting surgery for mine as well and was wondering how the scarring would look.
.
I have two fused hemi-vertebra causing congenital scoliosis, and it didn't really cause me pain as a kid but unfortunately that's changed.
.
I have chronic back pain to the extent of being unable to sleep, I'm grouchy most of the time, my dominant hand is losing grip and keeps dying, etc.
.
Since it keeps getting worse I had to go for an MRI, X-ray, and CT scan the week before last week - turns out I'm fused from C2-C7, then from C8-T1, and only the C7-C8 disk remains.
.
So they'll have to stabilize that, and remove the osteopath stabbing my nerve, or insert bone from my pelvic bone to keep the area open that causes the nerve to pinch between C6 and C7.
.
Apparently the operation isn't that intense, but considering they are planning to spread me open from the front and back, like a chicken being butchered, I beg to differ slightly.
As a PT I've seen patients do very well after. It's important to find good PT in your area to strengthen your core after. Problem with scoliosis is that you have to think long term. As we get older, it gets worse, and we won't recuperate as fast from surgery. Good luck!!
