lol. Get used to sighing. It will likely be a day or a few before anyone is ready to formally declare results. And then the court battles begin. This could drag to December without a winner and end in a call by the courts.
It’s pretty bad, and set to get worse. Almost certainly IF Trump loses, we will get to hear the same folks who sneered at the left for their “not my president” and “illegitimate election” comments- and talk about how this is “completely different...” that’s without the legal and political fallout. In a tie, Trump has the advantage in the tie breaker. If he wins there the left will beat their chests about how he packed Washington; and if he wins in the Supreme Court they’ll complain about how he packed that. If Trump loses the tie the right will call fowl play and corruption, same if he loses the Supreme Court. And in keeping with the theme of trumps time in politics, the real loser will be America, especially if it goes to the courts, as there ain’t a verdict that allows the Supreme Court to keep legitimacy with both camps.
It’s all a cluster. Lol. Just what has happened already combined with the last 4 years has stretched the illusions and exposed the flaws in our democracy while building tensions in ways that make it pretty clear why foreign agitators would back a certain candidate. I’m gonna try to not get too caught up. Tying to ignore the election and pretend (since it’s basically true) that Election Day isn’t for another week or two. Everyone who wanted to and could, voted- so the democracy part of the thing is over. Now comes the part where rich and powerful people work to make sure that why happens is what they want. Buckle up, and just enjoy the ride because none of us are steering anymore.
No kidding. I've already seen people who act like they have more control in the election than they actually do.
Both eligible to vote, and teenagers who might just be a tad too passionate at the moment. I'm not trying to insult or belittle said teenagers, as they will inherit the country and all its problems, but they need focus more on their schoolwork and less on the shitshow.
Lol. Yeah. I can’t blame them for morbid curiosity, like gawking at a train derailment. And I suppose that seems interest and exposure to the political system at a formative age is healthy to prepare them and build an understanding of the system. The desire to want to “make a difference” or be informed is certainly noble. But I would agree that interest, and in many cases more accurately, feelings of an overly deep nature on this thing are probably not the best thing a young person could be doing for themselves. Learning, reading on how the system is SUPPOSED to work, bettering themselves to face the road ahead so that they can be in a position to make good, and make informed decisions in the future is probably a good use of time.
I don’t know that it is too healthy for anyone to be too involved in events as they stand. At this point it’s more unnecessary aggravation and getting worked up than anything of substance. Biden won’t do anything noteworthy because he’s got class and a respect of democracy- or at least is good at faking it. Trump will bluster and say and do outrageous things and get rises out of people- it’s who he is, but to paraphrase Biden here- it’s not either one of their elections to call. It will come down to what America has decided, and then what is decided for us. Either way everyone has 4 years to celebrate or regret or get upset. The controversial 2000 election is still coming up here in the 2020, so I suspect that we will have plenty of time to relive and catch up on what is going on. At this point, unless people plan to gather in the square with their guillotines (unlikely but possible I suppose...) our political capital is spent. The highest levels of representatives have the votes...
... through the next term and a whole term to make people forget whatever they do today. So they aren’t exactly in the best position to be leveraged by the public sentiment. And really- both men have their flaws and potential pitfalls, but as high as emotions are and as distorted as perceptions are in painting each as either a devil or a messiah- they’re just men. I’d wager we can make it through 4 years of either without a total collapse of civilization. Although.... hey. Anything can happen- but that isn’t going to be decided today or even by December 14th. That’s going to come over the next 4 years and that’s something we do get a say in. So yes. I think we all have better things to do. Lol.
If it didn’t have any impact on us, a lot of Americans wouldn’t be watching with America. Most people don’t want to be involved in idiocy, but there can be a gruesome curiosity to watch. Like- Jackass, or rubbernecking an accident. You can’t help but watching, but you don’t want to be involved, you don’t want to be associated with it.
*Casually flips back to Google and sighs when the Election still isn't over*
