The illuminated, far side of the moon taken by the Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) on the DSCOVR satellite, which orbits about 1.6 million kilometers (1 million miles) from Earth. The dark or far side gets as much sunlight as the side we constantly can observe.
Fun fact: Even though, due to tidal locking, the moon shows only one hemisphere to observers on Earth, a phenomenon known as lunar liberation allows us to see about 59% of its surface over time.
