Whenever I see a recipe that calls for vanilla extract I feel my tastbuds retracting. And when someone dare say "let's be a little fancy and add vanilla extract" I get an unreasonably strong urge to lecture them and tie them to a chair and feed them vanilla extract until they admit it's disgusting, and then real vanilla so they can see what they've obviously be missing on their whole life.

Vanilla is expensive but worth every cent. Treat yo'self.
I use vanilla for vanilla ice cream and in desserts such as rice pudding, sometimes I also cook chicken with some vanilla in the pan (it's a peculiar flavor but I like it). I'd never thought of putting it in tea though!
You can use powdered vanilla (let it dry and pulverize it) or if you use tea that comes from a pot (not teabags), you can straight-up put the vanilla in it and let it infuse. Alternatively, you can also put the vanilla in the sugar so it takes the taste. The first solution will give a stronger flavor.

I didn't even think of trying to infuse it with my tea when it's brewing. Good call! I'm going to pick some up and give it a go.
That's funny I didn't mean to infuse it while brewing (I didn't use the right word, my bad), rather just letting it chill in the pot on your shelf... but I'm now realizing that letting a 2cm-long piece of vanilla infuse while brewing may work as well!
