Germany used the 1936 Olympics to present the country to other nations as a nice place to be for everyone, when in fact the oppression of numerous parts of the population already was in full swing at that time. Some German politicians wanted to prove the superiority of the "aryan race" which sort of backfired, ie. when Jesse Owens won his medals, All in all, the 1936 Olympics were regarded as a public relations success for Germany. It is expected that China is hoping for similar effects from the 2022 Olympics.
Actually theres still an important point missing why these 2 Dates are being compared. The Chinese Government is (next to all the other crazy shit they're doing) suppressing the uyghurs, which is a Population of non-chinese people located in China. They actually built something like concentration camps, they call it "re-education Camps" and right now there are around 1 Million Uyghurs prisoned inside these. Anyway these approx. 20 Million people are being treated like shit and many people say that theres a genocide happening there. This should be much more present in the news.

You are right, that must be mentioned. But China will get through this like they did with Tibet. They're playing the long game.
