Not at all. We travel a long ways to and fro, many of us haul things on the regular, and some of us just think they're neat.

Those ones are for hauling trailers. Horses, ATVS/UTVS, etc.
If you don't have things to haul, then you're probably compensating, cuz I dunno why you'd spend that much on one that big otherwise.
Because you can. Or because you live some place where the extra power comes in handy. Or because you can.
Maybe they do have ATV's and trailers, but only for some times of the year, and they don't feel like having or maintaining a whole 'nother rig.
Also the tiny versions of trucks you can get overseas aren't sold in the US. The smallest new truck my mom found when she went looking 2 years ago was the Tacoma and even that's larger than she wanted. The Honda truck uses the same car frame as the other vehicles so not designed for weight any more than an SUV. Your choices are simply becoming big or bigger.
Most people I know that have HD trucks have campers or are contractors with work trailers. Others - such as myself have a boat, it seems a truck bed come in handy more often than not. I hauled 2500lbs of stone in my driveway for my driveway. Cost me $17 .. the delivery fee was $50.
Sure we're Americans, we like big vehicle's because .. well fuck it why not. It does seem to me though, most guys climbing out of the biggest non work trucks are the smallest.
