Speaking of metal, I was a bit disappointed to learn that the German word for butterfly, 'Schmetterling' has nothing to do with 'schmettern' (to clash, to dash, or to blare) but instead comes from 'Schmetten' (sour cream). So yeah, almost the same origin as English.
