They always make the person swear an oath with their hand on the Bible.
What if they don't believe in Jesus? "This ain't shit"? Can't just say that, it's rude.
I have never been in court before so I do not know
But I doubt it, religion does not have influence in anyway when it comes to laws and orders in our country.
.
And yea, I agree with Mia, the Bible means nothing to the people who don't believe in Jesus, what's the point then?
Then they can swear on the Quran, Torah, Constitution, or themselves. It's a gesture meant to hammer home "You're under oath. If you lie, we will find out and you will pay".
As @famousone said, you are allowed to pick what you're swearing the oath upon. It's purely symbolic, although if you're about to be judged by your peers it helps your case to make them believe you are telling the truth, which usually means swearing on a religious book.
I’ve had to testify if court a few times. I simply had to raise my right hand. They ask “Do you swear or affirm that you will tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.” But no bible is involved. Maybe that’s just Alaska.
"I hereby swear, on my main deck of Duel Monsters cards, to solemnly tell the truth the whole truth (when asked to) and nothing but the truth. So help me, Holactie the Creator of Light."

EDIT: Or is that a Vietnam thing? Or German? I haven't seen those systems in action
