You know, I see all these posts and the apathy that some of them carry is astounding. A 16 year old girl was shot. When they had other non lethal ways to engage and to later arrest her. How many knife weilding individuals are shot? You ever see someone being shot for being involved in a bar fight or something by the police? She could've been rehabilitated if things were going bad for her.
.
But people want to drag each other through the mud. Cops bad, no, BLM bad. Have you no qualms that a kid got shot, and you want to play politics. And this is why politics disgusts me.
She was attempting to murder another person. She could have been rehabilitated if she hadn't pulled the knife.
`
But she did. And she attacked someone. And put their life in imminent danger.
`
A man cut off the head of another person on a bus once. Turns out he was mentally ill. No one was around to pull a gun. They've been working on rehabing him. This is no consolation to the person he killed. To their family.
`
This girl's death was NOT the ideal outcome. But it's the outcome she forced with her own actions. 16 or not. "Rehabable" or not. She was not attempting a nice friendly afternoon tea when she pulled that knife. She was trying to KILL someone.
`
"But she was 16." Her being 16 would not have made the girl she was trying to kill any less dead.
`
Who the fuck are YOU to imply that her chance at rehabilitation was worth more than the life of the person she was trying to kill?
And if you read the story for once, you would know they weren't her friends, but were bullying her. They had threatened to assault her. Bryant had called the cops herself because she felt threatened. A lot of people get bullied but rarely do they call the cops, which means she was probably scared for her life. And by the time the police reached there they saw her pushing the bullies back with a knife in her hand. They saw that Bryant had a knife and instead of engaging in all the lethal forces they had, they shot her. Four times.
She did not need to die.
The cops arrived to see a woman attacking others with lethal intent in spite of officer's being on site. One who ignored lawful orders to stand down. They took the proper course of action: Stopping the attacker in the most effective manner to minimize threat and harm to others.
You DO NOT negotiate with, wrestle, taze, or beat someone when they are in the process of killing someone else.
I'm pretty sure that's the same logic they use to justify school shootings.
`
And yeah, of course they shot her. Because you know what? The cops don't know who she is. So they get a call about some girl being bullied. And they arrive on scene and see someone with a knife attacking others.
`
Believe it or not cops don't have built in facial recognition. All they know is they arrived there and someone is ATTACKING WITH A KNIFE.
`
And you're mad because Bryant has a sad story. You think the cops should have said "hey! Knife-wielder! Stop mid-attack so we can find out if we think you're justified in trying to murder that person!"
`
Or maybe life doesn't work that way.
And that's a fucking excuse? Timothy McVeigh wasn't thinking straight either. Or Dylan Roof. Or the fuck down the road from you who beats his wife half to death regularly. Or the terrorist fuck who decides to drive a truck on the sidewalk.
They shot a knife-woman who had already dedicated to killing another person.
I am not mad at this one small case, I am mad at the apathy that people in general show and play all of this for mockery.
.
And even if they shot her, cool, they shot her FOUR times, which means they did not shoot with the intent to disarm her or to stop her from attacking, they shot her to kill. They could have also fired a warning shot, that wasn't there either.
.
And school shooting and this are two very different instances. However, I would say that, the investigation is still going on so things might turn good or bad for her depending on where it goes, but what happened was sad and when people use it to push their own agendas forward, your side doesn't matter, I am mad at that.
Congrats, the warning shot ricochetted and killed some toddler down the road.
Oh, they only shot her once? Too bad it didn't stop her from stabbing someone 7 fucking times.
How much training do you have? How many life and death scenarios have you been in?
Take it from someone who has trained, and who has handled weapons, and who has fired them in anger. Everything you typed about "intent to disarm or stop" is absolutely bullshit. Just stop.
There is no agenda here, I'm injecting no political rhetoric or even attacking that of others. The officer took the only proper course of action given the information at the time and the practical reality of the situation.
knew two kids in high school who were playing knife fight one weekend, long story short, one of them sliced the tendons of the others fingers by accident.
