cultural appropriation isn’t really an issue for them. i work with some awesome guys who immigrated here from Mexico and they say that generally they love to see people try and enjoy their culture and cultural style and encourage everyone to partake. so people complaining of appropriation (ESPECIALLY white people) is kind of confusing to them. their attitude is “if we don’t give a shit why should you?”
It's true, I'm a 2nd generation mexican immigrant who grew up around a lot of first gen immigrants. Mexican culture compared to others is very tolerant about cultural appropriation, most don't mind at all. Mexico does not really celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but Mexicans appreciate holidays whatever country they're in. I think the issue isn't about offending Mexicans bc you're wearing a sombrero. The real issue is if you use/do something with intent to be an asshole.
Yes. You're all correct, but may 5th is "la batalla de puebla". I don't really know many people that actually celebrate it.

It's not the most significant battle. It's like if all of Mexico celebrated the Battle of Gettysburg. kind of "Weird flex, but ok?" vibes. Mexican Independence Day is September 15/16th.
Yeah it's not independence day but it's in celebration of fending off a foreign invader trying to overthrow your government and make Mexico a puppet government with a European king (again). Seems as though it'd be rather important to me but I'm not Mexican so i won't convery my opinions on it further.
No worries, and yeah that's why some still celebrate in Puebla, but really Mexico lost a ton of battles after that, the french made it all the way to the capital, so it's less important. Mexico has a lot of bigger holidays which overshadow that day, many of them are religious celebrations, like Marian feast days. Those days get lit.
