If you only want her as a girlfriend and not a friend, yes, please move on and quit leading the girl on. Not saying there aren’t girls out there who will manipulate guys’ desire, but for every one of them, there’s at least another one who’s disappointed that she didn’t have an actual friend.

If you feel friendzoned, just ask yourself if you _really_ took an effort to let them know in what way exactly you're interested in them. People tend to believe what they're told, and if you tell them "hey, I really enjoy hanging around with you doing friend things" they will easily assume you want to be their friend. If you want your balls fondled, you need to have them in the first place.
Otoh I've met girls who would rather place a guy in friendzone and pretend to be oblivious to their advances than finding out how well they cope with open rejection. Lot of guys who are friendzoned are referred to as "the guy who can't take a fucking hint".
