Canadian schools I went to didn't teach any Canadian history at all, but did teach some of the natives history (had entire days dedicated to their heritage, actually), and also American history, and history about the world wars.
Was kinda surreal. Realized one day:
"Okay, I can name all 50 states*, know who Thomas Jefferson and George Washington are, know about the declaration of independence, know about Christopher Columbus, know about head smashed in buffalo run, the Inuit, that genocide of the buffalo, how to make bannock, some stuff related to native traditions, a bit about Thanksgiving, Hitler, Stalin, archduke Ferdinand, the holocaust, the big four, the current presidential election... But I don't actually know who the founder of Canada is."
.
Had to look it up independently.
.
And from the people I've talked to this isn't uncommon lol
.
But people like to pretend this is a great racial conspiracy for some reason, because I guess that's the trending drama of the week
.
Now kids will definitely be taught Canadian history, but they'll be taught to hate the country they live in I guess.
