As an add on; this is why most people who are hung die from suffocating rather than a neck snap; which is entirely fucked up.
That's why the knot on a hangman's noose is there, to add leverage to the procedure so that the neck brakes. It's also why the knot is supposed to be positioned prior to the drop.
