Key words: Current law. It will get changed, as it always has. Strictly speaking, Mickey Mouse was supposed to become public domain a long time ago.

It was supposed to be a certain number of years after Walt's death, but the company has lobbied to extend Mickey's tenure as an exclusive IP to be practically indefinite. Mickey ain't going to become public domain by the time 2024 rolls around, mark my words.

considering Disney tried to copyright public domain characters ie Loki, as their own, I think they deserve to lose it.
