I mean if anything they're catching a few fruit flies and then they're just laying eggs or whatever and breeding in the cup.

My mother usually takes a soft drink that's gone flat for a few days and puts it in a 1.5 liter bottle. She cuts the top half off and tapes it back on inverted. That way flies just go for the drink and drown in it
