Yeah, no. It's because the soldier has to slip his blade around the enemy's guard and armor. They just lack the specialized training to utilize weapons aside from a spear and maybe a dagger.
This is also why knights don't attack head on. Cavalry was always meant to slip into and disrupt the enemy lines, their own spears and greatswords were just more effective from horseback with a lifetime of training.
"Ill-informed and misplaced"? Is the above perhaps suggesting that what I said isn't true?

As for "hostility", to put it in his own words: "Self-awareness: 0".
Yes, it is untrue. My career was short, and I wouldn't call it at all "illustrious". But I do take my pride in doing my job well, in the training I excelled in, the selection I failed, and the lives I saved.
Not that it's relevant. I myself only have minimal training with knives, and none with swords or spears. My initial comment was just one part me recalling something I read long ago, and another part me being excited about cavalry tactics I studied for a story I'm writing.
Next question?
Oh! And scalpel work in medic school, as well as explicit instructions on what makes a person's condition incompatible with life.

And yeah, given the army is up against cartels I imagine they must Train you in lots of ways to deal with all the fucked up things those people do with knives
Usually depends on location and exact mechanism of injury, but as a rule knives are easier. I've never seen a laceration, stab, or impalement that was worse than it looked, but I have seen and studied GSWs that just... got fucky.
How in the hell does a guy get shot in the back while standing, for the bullet to shatter his hip on the way out? Or a woman gets shot in her left shoulder and the round destroys an ovary?
If you are treating a GSW, check the ENTIRE body for an exit wound. And after initial interventions are in place? Check again.
I've seen a guy get shot twice! And once we got his armor off, you'd think he just got sliced up by a knife across his chest and shoulders. No internal damage!
And I did spend some time on the border, off duty and otherwise. Shit gets nasty there, sometimes still keeps me up late or wakes me up early.
That makes a lot of sense. Bullet wounds are freaky you never know exactly how they're going to go. Knives have more predictability from the sounds of it
I'm sure they'll call my bias but I didn't take famous' initial response as "triggered." I honestly thought it was interesting to learn more about the actual reason chess pieces move the way they do - assuming his answer is correct.
