As many are aware, most Canadians don't much care for the cirque du so lame going on in Ottawa. It's even worse for Ottawans. Imagine trying to rest for or after work, and some clowns are honking outside your window.
Standing up for the working man indeed.
Hmmm…. Interesting point. So, if I understand @famousone- you’re saying the Canadian government is kinda the “bad guy” for putting the truckers in a position where they are messing with their ability to work and interfering with their body?
And that the people complaining about the convoy disrupting them are sort of experiencing a taste of what that is like?
And they're even managing to do it without murdering dozens of people, rallying behind pedophiles and serial felons, or even burning down people's livelihoods and cities.
So then- if the Canadian government is the bad guy because they are messing with truckers ability to work and their bodies- all just because that serves the interests of the Canadian government and what they think is right….
Then….
If the truckers are now messing with peoples ability to work and their bodies, because it serves their interests and what they think is right… aren’t they the bad guys too? Like- we have the Canadian government doing this bad thing to truckers who were minding their own business- not involved.
And now the truckers are doing that to regular citizens who aren’t the ones who put the laws in place the truckers don’t like, they’re not involved minding their own business.
And then does that mean that the Canadian citizens should protest the protest and blockade them, cut them off from vital supplies and take steps to choke off their economic and material support until the truckers agree to their demands or can’t sustain without giving in?
Counter protests are just fine. What isn't fine is stealing from or endangering the lives of other people.
And what really isn't fine, is the government in question openly and deliberately "revoking" civil rights, bypassing due process, using the power of the state to harass political opponents, and deputizing the banks and media to further harass protesters and their supporters.
Hmmm… can we follow the advice famousone gave me in another thread and stay on topic? We aren’t talking about the government- we were talking about the people impacted by the protestors remember?
Sounds to me like you don't have a rebuttal. It is clear to all of us with eyes and ears that you are trying to establish some kind of false equivalence. And you've done a wonderful job of proving me right.
Again- start your own thread to talk about me. Please stay on topic. Or… are you saying that is the refuge of someone with nothing better to say? Because…. I got that advice from you remember?
You asked about counter protesters, clearly trying to establish some kind of false equivalence.
I contextualized what all is being done by the government that is not okay, and outlined what I consider appropriate for protesters in similar contexts.
Tl;dr: Counter protests are fine, just don't hurt anybody or take their stuff, and the government is going too far into tyranny.
False equivalence? Your first comment compared the way people are feeling from the truckers protests to the truckers feelings about the government- I then confirmed that understanding with you by asking if that is what you meant.
You established the parallel between the two things and I took it to the logical
Conclusion. If person A is slighted by person B and that makes person B bad, and as you affirmed, person C is experiencing a taste of that from person B, then person B doing it to person C is as bad as A doing it to B, and for C to react the same as B would be as expected and supported on moral principle as B reacting to A.
Unless we choose to apply our logic selectively based on personal feelings as opposed to principle.
My stance has been consistent on principle. The government breaking it's own laws and openly violating people's rights is wrong, and protesters and counter-protesters can do whatever they want that doesn't hurt anybody or take or break anybody's stuff.
So then you agree, I agree, and there isn’t an issue with the people who are effected by the convoy shutting them
Down, and we all support them in doing that because their rights to peaceful enjoyment are being violated. It’s a wrap.
No. You suggested that it's okay to choke off vital supplies.
Stealing people's money, food, water, and fuel, as the Canadian government and counter-protesters have done, is in no way okay.
But like…. A trucker blockade doesn’t choke off supplies? An entire literal bridge between countries…?
And of the government is cutting off supplies to truckers- what does that again have to do with counter protestors who are just citizens? The problems are between the convoy and the government yes? If the convoy is making citizens suffer to get their way, how is that different than the government making truckers suffer to get their way? I’m not seeing what you’re saying.
We covered this. A is bad for doing X to B. B is doing X to C. If A is bad for doing X to B then B is transitively bad for doing X to C no? Your counter is:
But A did ANOTHER bad thing to B! Ok. But what does that have to do with C- who are the ones this thread was talking about who are suffering so B can have their way wether C wants to be involved or not?
It’s not really “feigned ignorance” to question something. Can’t win. If people assume they are putting words in your mouth, when people ask you for your opinions or to explain the seeming logical contradictions it’s feigning ignorance. I asked a question that you cannot or will not answer. The question is still there, still unanswered.
I come and discuss the issue and you reply by discussing me. Would you like to discuss and put your word to record or talk about me some more?
