I mean- of course walls work. It’s why our military and all the worlds leading armed forces still use castles and walled forts as a central part of their doctrine.
South Korea has a wall and look at them- who in the entire world is worried about North Korea thanks to that wall? I mean… there are also mines… and automated turrets…. and 24/7/365 surveillance more intense than any border crossing in the world. And also… people still get by all that… and also from time to time they discover massive tunnels that would allow thousands of people to circumvent the wall in under an hour…. And people also go around their wall pretty often… But I mean… if we look at the stats from DHS and border patrol the number of successful crossings and total crossings of the US wall have gone UP since the wall was built. So I mean- “walls work, as convenient political maneuvers and sources of division that allow paying public funds to chummy contractors that under deliver” at the very least.
Or I guess less politically…. “Walls work for some things… sometimes. Other things… maybe not so good at.”
I mean like- with all the talk about preserving the environment… Zip lock bags do a great job of preserving my groceries… but like- maybe putting a giant zip lock bag over the Amazon rainforest isn’t the way to preserve it- know what I mean? A carpenter uses more than just a hammer to build a house, doesn’t mean hammers don’t work, just means that it isn’t the best tool for cutting a board maybe.
Im glad my meaning came through. Exactly. If you have emotions you aren’t ready or able to process in the moment- go ahead and zip lock them up so you can process them later sometimes. Don’t let them sit in the bag so long they fester though. Share them or process them before they pile up or end up a mess. And that’s the great thing about ziplock bags- they are perfect for sharing but they also let you decide with whom or when to share. I can understand not wanting just anyone to be able to put their grubby hands on every emotion of course- but if you put emotions behind a wall you end up with emotional compost with no use for it except to help grow your trauma garden. We can’t stop ourselves from feeling, so we may as well make use of those feelings for something other than trauma fertilizer.
I can’t speak to myself- but if you I can say: I definitely feel you’re doing good here. I don’t comment on every single one- but I do see every single one of your memes and up vote and appreciate them. Thank you, and your wit is unquestionable in my book as is your ability to make collaborative comments that leave an open door for reply. A master class in communications without the cost per credit.
