what if I told you disney, when they owned miramax, technically made pulp fiction? disney and no pg place, never has been... it's an illusion, not my fault ya'll can't see it. I mean jfc there's date rape, a dude gagged, child abduction, imprisonment, fake transphobia, beastialty, the occult, random green army men coming to life, literally maleficent, a lion version of Hamlet, a few wars, and the avengers cursing each other out, For kids? Really?
What I hear when I hear people say homosexual relationships in children's content are inherently harmful is: “I need to better educate myself” or “I probably shouldn’t have children.” It’s really one or the other I don’t see it as a matter of opinion. Why? Simple:
Homosexuals are…. REAL! I know. Shocking. You can see them out in the park or at dinner. Like heterosexuals they often hold hands, even kiss! Now, let’s look at what this really means- this argument means: “I have some sort of personal issue with reality, and I want film studios to make my job easier in sheltering my child from reality.” Now- reality can be very scarring. That’s why children movies generally never go further than at most a kiss between people in love. Showing Prince Charming kiss the princess is a far cry from showing him tie her up and stick a glass slipper on her brown ballroom while the 7 dwarfs watch and stroke off. So graphic gay sex- or graphic sex, intense abuse, graphic gore- these things…
probably don’t belong in children fiction- but basic human emotions and concepts like love, sadness, grief, arrogance etc. can all be used to create moral tales appropriate for kids. Showing a love story that is healthy and sweet to kids isn’t inherently harmful- if your little kid is watching a movie about princesses or anthropomorphic lions and thinking about what genitals everyone has you probably have bigger things to deal with than worrying your kid might be scarred by two men holding hands.
If your goal is to raise your children isolated from “everyday” reality- things you can see in plain public view that aren’t illegal or immoral like two people in love being appropriate but affectionate- you probably shouldn’t be watching movies made outside your compound or ashram or whatever.
Mainstream Movies are mostly made for us who live in the real world as a form of escapism. If you don’t want to live in the real world at all- mainstream movies probably aren’t for you.
