Horseshoe crabs are only crabs by name. They're not related to real crabs at all.

Crabs first appear in the fossil record early in the Jurassic period of the Mesozoic, nearly 200 million years ago. Horseshoe crabs have been around for 450 million years, predating the dinosaurs by more than 200 million years. They're the OG crab.

Have you seen an actual crab? Horseshoe crabs don't look like actual crabs, that's a big part of why they're not related.

Coconut crabs look like crabs but aren't crabs.

Coconut crabs, being crustaceans, are much closer related to actual crabs than horseshoe crabs.
