So… this is both straight forward and also… not. Effectively all available historical, genetic, and fossil evidence supports that “human beings” as we would recognize
The term didn’t exist on earth until many MILLIONS of years after the dinosaurs like in that picture were presumed extinct. This isn’t a matter of even centuries where we could argue convincingly that perhaps some small enclave survived somewhere- MILLIONS, tens of millions of years. Far too long for “overlap.”
In that sense- what most people would picture- a “Turok” situation or “land of the lost” or that picture etc- impossible is a strong word but the odds what most people mean by “humans and dinosaurs coexisting” is effectively about the odds that humans coexisted with aliens in an advance civilization on earth that was lost without any record. So… probably no.
Now- if we get TECHNICAL… humans and dinosaurs totally coexisted. Sort of.
The key here is that “dinosaur” can be a broad term. While many modern theories paint pictures of feathered Dinosaurs- the Dinos we tend to think of are “reptilian” versus the later “avian dinosaurs.” So- most people know that most birds are distant evolutionary offspring of dinosaurs- the “missing link” of sorts here are the Phorusrhacidae, the “terror birds.” These large flightless- mostly carnivorous birds (dinosaurs..?) would have potentially coexisted at the same times and same general regions as very early human ancestors. Now we split hairs. When did “humans” become human in our view here? Do remember that history is full of distinct groups of “humans,” some who went extinct or were bred into “extinction” by genetic dilution other groups and so forth. There are entire branches of the “human” genetic tree who share effectively no link to pretty much any living modern human- the genetic similarities are closer to saying that humans and monkeys are the same.
Likewise- we run into trouble with the “dinosaurs” and how we want to break down their evolution. Most people would agree that a Chicken isn’t a dinosaur. It’s ancestor was perhaps- but a chicken gets its own classification as a distinct type of organism that is not a dinosaur. “Terror Birds” kinda sit in between. Generally in the sciences they are their own classification and for all intents aren’t what would be considered “dinosaurs.” That said- there are always ambiguities and disagreements in classifications. So if we get REAAAAL technical and broad we can maybe make a case that humans and dinosaurs coexisted. If we want to play the “can’t prove it didn’t happen in this big wide world” card- that’s true. Absence of evidence isn’t necessarily evidence of absence- but the odds are again- astronomically stacked against the argument. We can’t say it isn’t possible though, only HIGHLY unlikely.
If we want to classify anything distantly related to humans or dinosaurs as one or…
.. the other- sure. Some little cat monkey rat thing that was a human ancestor probably ran around with some of your favorite land before time characters, and chickens and humans run around together in the modern age- though most people would be pretty pissed if they paid $30k to go to a real life “Jurassic park” in Costa Rica and the exhibits were all chickens and birds- so I think this one doesn’t fly if we put any thought into it. Plainly- the idea that humans ran around with T-Rex and triceratops and stegosaurus and velociraptor and brachiosauruses and such just basically isn’t supported. Most of the dinosaurs we know and love didn’t even run around together. Many were separated by millions of years from each other as well. The world is full of mystery and it is fine to think that perhaps some secret enclave of Dinos survived and were ridden in prehistory or something. It’s ok to think maybe some alien race or deity just l.. for whatever reason… decided to “prank us” by faking…
… events on a planetary scale over billions of years to simulate an elaborate hoax that humans and dinosaurs didn’t co exist. That said- do you believe in people? Do you believe that people are good and kind at heart or generally aren’t total scum? Ok. So- hypothetical here. If you came home and every shred of evidence said that your neighbor had assaulted your sibling/spouse/loved one- would you look at that evidence and say: “let’s slow down here. I believe people are good, so there is something else going on. Perhaps an alien or deity staged this. Perhaps, no matter how unlikely- there is something else going on besides the thing every shred of evidence and common sense points to…”? Gun to your head- are you laying it up on your belief you’ll be ok- or if the opportunity presents itself to try and save yourself are you taking it?
What you believe is in your head. The real world is what is outside your head. It is generally prudent to conduct matters of practicality as they present in the real world and to keep your beliefs in your head and your heart. Beliefs of principle like justice etc. can guide and I from our actions. Believing in fairies that protect you from harm is fine as long as you don’t leave it all up to the fairies. Maybe some times they are busy or fickle? So if you find yourself in a burning building, don’t wait for the fairies- try to save yourself and hope the fairies pitch in if you cock up. If you believe something you can’t prove or support with solid evidence- you probably shouldnt expect the world to conduct itself according to your belief.
