lol
so it looks like it was going to be delivered by the I-400 aircraft carrier-submarine, bombing set to begin in early august. the plan was scrapped in March, supposedly, but troops were still being assembled in July right up until the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which suggests that the claim of killing the plan early may have been an attempt to hide their intentions.

No no. Like- I’m not going to discuss the ethics of dropping nuclear weapons in Japan or say anything other than the suffering of those effected is a tragedy we should all try to avoid in the future. But here’s the thing- Japan had PLANNED to use the plague on the US… but they DID use the plague in China. Like- actually did it. To the point that even in modern times random Chinese workers and such have unearthed plague weapons that are active but didn’t go off.
Research or Google “Kaimingjie germ weapon attack.”
If you read up on the Japanese occupation of China, the rape of nanjing aka Nanjing massacre, and for some really disturbing stuff Japanese military unit 731 and the things they did. Japan killed a widely accepted figure of around 4 million Chinese, mostly civilians.
The atrocities committed in Korea and the attempts to systematically eradicate the Korean culture, language, and people are also good topics if you are interested in man made horrors.
If you want less horrifying or another Japan V. America one- Japan did release “balloon bombs” into America. Over 300 or so are believed to have made it to America. They were basically just that- balloons similar to weather balloons which generally carried “fire bombs.” Mostly targeting the west coast and the Pacific Northwest as far south as Northern California, the idea was that the bombs would hopefully cause massive fires in cities and the regions forests. That plan was carried out but was for all intents a massive failure.
A quick asides for those who weren’t aware- a good deal of the guys who cooked this stuff up and the people who were responsible for the use of the plauge in China and horrifying human experiments and such… they were gobbled up by the “allies” including the US and Russia. We grabbed as many as we could and have most of them pardons. Most were given fabricated or disguised identities or had their crimes disassociated from their names and were given prominent and often lucrative positions. Many went on to become major assets of industry and business and reaped the rewards neigh paid professionals. Inhuman as their deeds were, there is no way to get the data they were getting by transplanting animal organs into people and freezing pregnant women to death except to get those guys to agree to share it with us, by rewarding them. So many everyday things and life saving technologies and medical breakthroughs come from the torture and murder carried out by monsters who got away with it.
yeah, talk about taking the best out of a bad situation. you hear about that with guys like Werner Von Braun but i wasn’t aware we did the same with the Japanese.
Oh yeah. On a massive scale. The United States paid out over $40 million in todays dollars as straight cash rewards to Japanese (pardoned) war criminals. Unit 731 had already began covering up their deeds by the time the pacific war was wrapping up, but the United States for example ran an actual massive cover up operation to hide and destroy evidence and facts. For all that US history classes teach or have taught on WW2 and the focus on the Nazis as a cautionary tail and general bad guys- the US history text books tend to be more mum on horrors related to Japan- mostly if anything discussing things like treatment of prisoners of war. Not only did we want Japanese scientists but we wanted strategic relations with post war Japan since China was basically handed to the communists and other “writing on the wall” made it obvious we needed a base to act in the region. War alone can cause hate, but the Us government had spent years creating and fostering a very negative view of the Japanese.
That sort of makes it harder to get the same people taught that to buy that suddenly these are good folks to be best friends with in a fight against communism and for economic prosperity. It not only likely would have caused quite a bit of outrage that we pardoned such men- but having such atrocities become so widely known could really hamper attempts at relations between the countries. Things were a little bit different in Europe because historically, while Europeans and “whites” may have grudges and prejudices amongst themselves- there has tended to be more.. respect? Value? Common ground? Among these similar peoples than among those same groups and those more superficially and culturally “different” like Asians. There also tended to be less ties like family and friends because of logistics and relative population isolation.
In simple terms it comes down to the historical “othering” of certain groups. Cultural sentiment. Germans and Europeans were present in the United States from the nations earliest days and a major part of the narrative fabric and “mainstream” histories of communities and the nation. Various groups of Asians were fundamental in the formation of the nation but didn’t have the same participation or representation in the “mainstream” narrative and experience.
At the time, many who had ancestors from or came from Germany and Europe were considered just as “Americans” where as it would be rare to find Asian individuals or groups considered as and accepted as part of the mainstream social group thought of simply as “American.”
So yeah. Big cover up at a nation wide scale by America. Cover ups by other allied powers, and of course Japan had self interest as a nation, the imperial government had self interest, imperialists who didn’t want to see the emperor disgraced further and hung, and various individuals had interest in cover it all up. It wasn’t until the 1990’s that Japan officially acknowledged unit 731 and began to release information. They didn’t release unit member names until almost 2010, and even then records were missing.
Former members went on to do things like head Japan’s first blood bank and major post war pharma-coms that would merge later with Mitsubishi. A man who froze people alive, including pregnant women to take data concerning their deaths, if having a baby kept you alive longer etc-among other horrors- went on to head a prestigious National medical university.
also how did you post the link? it won’t let me when i try.
