This! I've been saying this for years! Ban discrimination, corruption and regulate the market to limit harmful practices and start using taxes to finance available, top tier, healthcare and schools and infrastructure for everyone not just the rich! Liberty, Freedom and Justice for All!
I do hope your being facetious. This isn't about the big stuff. This is about things like if you're conservative they want to ban you from all media, schools, and any public forum. If you disagree with anything they say you're supposed to be silenced or better yet arrested. Also, you need to pay for their trip to Spain, because they're stressed and need a vacation. Or their hair dye because they're not so pathetic as to actually keep they hair color they were born with. They want to be like toddlers who make the rules to the game up as they go along so they always win and the responsibility for their lives should be shouldered by everyone else.
This is not about people that want and work to enact change in our society. This stems only from selfishness and they'd be just as likely to turn on anyone who tries to help them the moment they don't just give them everything they want. They want to live their lives with no responsibility, and no cost to anything they do. From your posts, while we disagree on alot of things, I don't think you anywhere close to these type of people.
Silly but it is poignant. The problem tends to lie in definitions and this thread sort of touches on that. Where is the line? Where is the line? I’m old. My great grandparents would look at me like a sissy and to be honest, most young people today look soft to me. I’m ok with that because it means society is working to some degree. Most people have it pretty easy. Indoor modern plumbing, electricity, lots of machines no workplace protections. Your teachers can’t legally hit you and parents really can’t much either. What today is abuse was normal or expected in my day. What was abusive and cruel or inhuman was a good day to my grand parents and great grand parents. We improve the technology, the standard of living, society to try to make life easier and the next generation grows up in that world not knowing what hard really is most of the time.
But there is a line somewhere philosophically. To outlaw slavery is to take a man’s freedom to own slaves. Most modern folk will agree that the idea of slavery is repugnant and there shouldn’t be a “freedom” to take another humans freedom like that. To invoke the internet cliche and bring up that guy- Hitler was an idea man. He used free speech to spread some ideas. Ok. We see where that went. So is that it? It should be ok to do that? If someone has some ideas like “maybe these people shouldn’t exist at all…” or “all our problems are mostly these people…”
The price of freedom is to allow people to decide to walk down that road and then we just see what happens and sort it out later?
At some point there are things that just aren’t ok. No one can control your thoughts or feelings, but to some degree what is said and done can be controlled and is required to have a society unless it is rule of anarchy or everyone just automatically agrees on everything all the time and thinks and acts the same. In a world where people are different but live together we have rules to make that work. At some point of course there are things that can’t be allowed. A tolerant society must not tolerate intolerance. An inclusive society cannot include those who would exclude others. You can still feel anyway you want, but in society- which is basically any time you aren’t alone in your home- we need people to follow the rules that allow the most people the opportunity to live their lives.
Why can’t people walk around naked? It hurts no one. Don’t like it, don’t look. Of course that’s so simple right? So you can’t walk around naked because that’s something that could cause issues. “Snowflakes” abound across the spectrum of politics. People who talk about how silly someone is for being offended at a comedian or trying to stop them from their life or career because of their words or deeds may get offended by a gay couple kissing or existing at all. May think it’s ok to “cancel them” like allowing businesses to refuse to serve them because they are “offended” by their existence or words or deeds. Interesting isn’t it? We often fail to see hypocrisy all around us when it is convenient To ignore. But what else do we vote for than what we believe in or what we want to see the world look like?
Most people aren’t looking to take away the freedoms of others because they simply are petty- it is because they see or fear harm. Speech leading to deed or deed leading to consequence. These people vote against abortion because it offends them, because they fear what a world looks like with normalized abortion. These people vote against a law to separate bathrooms by gender because they fear the message that sends and how it may “other” or hurt various people. This guy boycotts a brand because it spreads liberal messages or supports “BLM” and this guy boycotts a brand because it donated money to try and make gay marriage illegal. “Cancel culture” and all that are buzzwords simply aimed at trying to avoid highlighting hypocrisy. For most people it’s just about justifying what they already want or believe- nothing more.
The price of freedom is to allow people to decide to walk down that road and then we just see what happens and sort it out later?
