I agree- but I also see another side to the story. I’d say there are three main groups of people who disrespect teachers:
- those that disrespect all teachers
- those that disrespect teachers that are genuinely malicious or otherwise terrible,
- those who disrespect teachers they feel are terrible.
Now the first one I can’t really say much beyond that those people are likely just a&$ holes or have some deep personal issues and they shouldn’t be taking out those issues on others. I mean- unless they’re some sort of anime/teen drama character who’s best friend or whatever killed the selves because of a teachers betrayal and now they hate all teachers until a “magic” teacher takes them on a journey likely involving saving them from a biker gang and fixing their family issues. But asides that exception- the first one is mainly just a&$ holes.
Now, the second one… I can give a partial. I mean- if a teacher is GENUINELY and OBJECTIVELY just a terror- they aren’t doing their job. Arguably they MIGHT be doing the bare minimum of their job, but probably not, unless this teacher is “that trope” of the “harsh master” who is seemingly cruel to their students and harsh but can turn coal into polished diamonds or transform the “kids no one could teach” into productive and successful students and people- though I would argue that isn’t terrible- just harsh. But if they are just a useless and cruel teacher- I get why kids would disrespect them and… I can’t officially condone it. We can’t control others, only ourselves. Treating others with respect and kindness regardless of how they treat us shows who WE are, their actions show who they are- and when two people are being jerks or disrespectful- “who started it” is a bit childish. You still have two jerks, the math adds up. So ideally they wouldn’t be disrespectful even if a teacher…
.. was trash, but I mean… we are all human. We all snap sometimes. We can try to be better. Anyway-
The third kind. These kids usually have some “problem with authority,” which- a good deal of people do and especially younger people- ESPECIALLY at certain phases- the terrible 2’s, the horny almost decade long terrible 2’s aka being a teen and young adult… etc.
So the very job of a teacher can be seen as a problem. And… while it is a sort of simple way of thinking- there is a logic to it. Teachers are generally part of a system of socio economic control and they are complicit in it in general. I’m not going to get into it- they are compelled by their vocation and livelihood and I’m not begrudging that, but if your country drafts you to war and you fight, you still fought even if it was compulsory right? You’d still be an enemy combatant and complicit in that war. Same deal. So to those who reject the system, a teacher is an element of that system by choice. Of course- we basically..
I was never rude to teachers and always hated when other kids were… with one exception. I had a teacher who constantly screamed viciously at his classes, but I had him the year admin told him he wasn’t allowed to yell at students anymore. And to my classmates who spent every day trying to test when he’d crack, thanks. It was absolutely hilarious.

I said it’s simple thinking didn’t I?
But being disrespectful is bad in genera. The end.
