I've known long time fishermen that just liked the peacefulness. They'd throw out a line with a bobber, and a small weight, nothing else. No hook, no bait, they didn't want to actually catch anything. They were just enjoying the moment.

I am one of those. Sure, you can just sit and stare at water but then people passing will try to talk to you. Hold a fishing rod, even without a line, and everyone's like "Don't disturb, he's fishing".
