Remember, if they make your mouth tingly or dead, there's a good chance you're allergic. If so, also check your sensitivity to latex.

The red ones can be ... (Afrikaans: melerig) i.e. have a coarse floury texture? Not sure how it's in English but I dislike the texture. Green apples or pink ladies are where it's at.
Melerig does mean floury. And yeah, some apples are indeed like that. Honey Crunch is where it's for me. Sadly, so far I haven't found any place that sells them.
