I'm gonna have a hard time explaining myself. a lot of homeless people get that way from a series of misfortunes. But you can't just give things away. In the depression when there was a money crisis, rather than just the government giving away money. They created the work programs for people instead. something you've earned and worked hard for is valued much differently then something that was gifted to you. We can't just solve a problem like this by giving even more handouts it will just add to the problem of consuming. seems fucked up but that's what I choose to believe.
So you are saying printing more money and giving more free handouts ISNT the answer? well sir thats just crazy talk (If you couldn't tell this reply was dripping with sarcasm)
Guest I loved your comment. Here's something that I think goes right along with adrianpeterson's comment: if we gave away houses like this to homeless people, many many hardworking, but still lower class individuals would cease to work, because "look what they have and they don't work for it or pay for it, so why should I?" This is a problem that has already been created by welfare in the United States. When someone loses a job and gets government assistance, often times it is better than when they were working, so they never get off it. It spirals out of control into a whole society that thinks that they are owed something.
jjohnson21 you are an idiot. "When someone loses a job and gets government assitence it's often times better than they were working so they never get off it"
The MOST uniformed stream of blather I have EVER heard. Have you TRIED living on welfare??? I was a single mother 20 years ago who struggled to make ends meet and was on welfare for TWO years during which time I participated in the "Welfare to Work" program MANDATED by the state. MOST states in this nation have similar programs. The majority of people who get assistance in the USA are off by the second year and never sign up again. PLEASE check facts before posting propaganda and opinion!!
Look at the number of people leading worthless, unproductive lives on welfare. I'm not talking about single mothers, I'm talking about people who line up at the grocery store buying steak and all sorts of other expensive foods with food stamps, and I work my ass off and I am buying cheap ground beef and ramen noodles. The fuck got you so mad bluedogs? I have spoken to many people who like living on welfare better than having a job, I don't need to check my facts, they are correct. And why did you have to start calling names and acting like that in the first place? Nobody was being mean then you and your bullshit come in acting like an asshole. Fuck off bitch.
A lot of people seem to be under the assumption that, when the Government is short on money, they can just print more money. What they don't realize is that the more money they print, the less that money is worth.
These houses once belonged to people who worked to own them and for whatever reason, they lost it, be it their own fault or a result of the economy. How angry would you be to know something you once worked hard to own was just being handed over to someone who most likely (not trying to be stereotypical) abuses some substance etc.
Thinking "well I'm homeless and that home has no owner, I should get it" is a poor sense of entitlement.
Each case is different, each person is different - it's unfair to generalise homeless people and brand them as 'lazy' or 'alcoholics'. Some have very unfortunate circumstances, sometimes it's out of their control, they may have got caught up in drugs or wrong crowd of people etc. there is more resources available now than say 10 years ago so that's progress right? Homeless people don't need handouts but help to get back onto their feet. Thrashing them isn't going to help!
You all need to read this: http://www.unitedwayla.org/our-work/housing-stability/ Creating housing for the homeless is a step in the right direction-giving them services they need to get back on their feet is the next.
All humans deserve a roof over their heads, running water, warmth, food, and shelter. However, I'm guessing many of those uninhabited homes are in disrepair, have lead, have asbestos, and aren't too functional without electricity or running water.
A lot of homeless people have medical conditions that they almost refuse to get treatment for or there just isn't any available for them. Yet they too are trying to survive each day as it comes. Have some compassion, just because you're up on a pedestal judging doesn't mean that pedestal can't drop your ass to where they are. We are all trying to survive, friend.
Homeless people aren't responsible enough to maintain a house; that's why they're homeless. Many would trash these places by ripping out the fixtures to sell for scrap to support drug habits. Haven't you seen what happens to welfare housing projects after a few years? It's not pretty.
