Florida is one of 15 states with laws that allow drug testing for welfare under various conditions. I think they stopped because, like you said, cost to administer was more than saved. Stats vary from state to state but the rate of positive is generally much less than 1% (and that’s even if you count people who refused to test as positive).

He has a TEDx talk about becoming a meme. It’s pretty cool. He’s also kind of a big deal in engineering.

I always bring in a can of seltzer water, but my kid and spouse go for the whole experience —popcorn, soda, candy. We figure they need the money anyway. Movies have gotten so expensive!!

I keep trying to imagine the person my child could become that would stop me from loving him endlessly and I simply cannot.

This makes me a little sick to my stomach.
[not nearly as bad] reminds me of the time that my spouse had the elbow bursa removed and I had to pack sponges around the bone. *shudders* you aren’t supposed to be able to touch/see the bones.

I paid for my first degree, 20 years ago by working and paying as I went along. It was difficult but affordable. I had to take out loans for my second (8 years ago) degree. I will be paying on that until I die... despite earning 3 times the annual salary I did during the first.

I think he/she is referring to the course load not being full time. Not working. You have to work full time to pay for part time classes. But grad programs require full time classes (and often full time work)

There’s also some interesting studies about word shape that relate to this too. And not just the shape of the letters/words but also the shapes around the letters. So, long blocks of copy in all caps are more difficult to read than the same words set in sentence case.

Yeah. Caffeine is very addictive. It just doesn’t present many health problems in the typical adult.

I’ll throw in an extra $50 if at a meaningful point in the proceedings you choke back a sob and run away dramatically, but drop a photograph that doesn’t seem to relate to my life at all—but maybe it does...

PTSD is insidious. It seeps into your life and impacts you in ways you don’t expect. That’s especially hard when you don’t really remember what happened. But your flashbacks are real, and there’s some good studies out there that show that the memories in flash backs are often more accurate than things that were remembered all along. Your brain isn’t trying to trick you, and you aren’t making it up.
As Parisqueen said, professional can help a lot. PTSD impacts your life in a lot of ways, many of which you may not yet realize.
If you can’t get to a specialist right now, there are anonymous online chat forums that you can help. A couple examples: isurvive [dot] org // aftersilence [dot] org
These are supportive communities that can help you work through some of the things that are plaguing you.
Thanks for having the courage to reach out. You aren’t alone.
