this isn't actually true. it actually is water leaving the body which causes the skin to wrinkle. there are also theories saying that its caused by the constriction of blood vessels, not the brain doing this to increase grip.

Logically, it makes sense with our very slight evolution towards the sea. The only evidence of that is the webbing between our fingers and toes. But on the other hand, the finger pruning is not for the purpose as described above. (There's also a theory about sea cows but I won't go into that)
