I just read the verse (i believe its what your talking about). It said in summary "if you do not follow my covenant I will (list of things), and make it to where it takes a lot of work to make food and then when it's made it will given out in portions. If still, you do not follow the covenant, (list of things) I will make you eat your sons and daughters (list of other things that mostly deals with idols and alters).
This along with the killing women for pre-marital sex comes leviticus does it not? Leviticus has been fulfilled by Jesus and is now just a history book. How many more times I have to tell the people of funsabstance this I don't know. You don't look to leviticus for rules to follow in today's time, you look in the new testament.

Oh, let's play the "We obey what we want from it" game :D
But that is the point... A lot of Christians do. There are whole sects dedicated to a part of the bible. But you are choosing to follow just the new testament.
Because that's what your suppose to follow now.
Quick question. How much do you know about the bible on a scale of 0-10?
0= nothing
2.5= you know some of the stories and their meaning
5= you know about half of the stories and their meaning
7.5= you know most of the stories and their meaning
10= you know everything about every story; including the meaning, and all historical aspects
Keep in mind I'm not insinuating that I know more than you. I just want to know how much you know.

Probably around 7.5 since I go to a catholic school and I have been many years debating with believers.
Now it's your turn: What do you mean by: "thats what you follow now"?. Rules made by God, who is perfect in all manners, change? Does he commit errors? Or do we, humans, who really invented them, commit errors?
Probably around a 7.5. How did you know that that is what you are supposed to follow now? If you use a book to say that all this is right, does that mean the other hundred religions are irrevocably wrong? If god loves all his children, why is their only one right way?
Why we gotta have arguments about religions man.
Can't we just move on...?

Arguments are a good thing as long as no one attacks directly to other person. That's how you get knowdlege, you argue and either you win or someone corrects you, which increases your knowledge.
But then there are the overly religious types who like to throw their knowledge in other people's faces and pull the Bible card.

As i said, an argument is good as long as both parts admit that they could be in error (that's why they are debating). And of course, if someone starts saying random BS or negating obvious/proved sentences, that isn't a good argument. And i have heard that from both sides, atheists and believers.
Bookworm my respect for you grew when I saw these above comments. While I was away I was composing my replies in word. I tried paraphrased everything so If you want me to go in-depth with actual verses and such, just ask.
Question 1. The old testament was a book of laws pretty much telling the Jews how to live their lives. There are also prophecies in the old testament. Some of these prophecies told of a messiah who would deliver them from the bondage of Rome and set up a kingdom where they would be the rulers. K? So, some time after these prophecies came Jesus. Jesus grows up, and while growing up learns some stuff in church, asks hard questions, and pretty much gives the religious leaders a hard time. When he's old enough to live alone he sets out and starts his ministry. This is where the answer to your question comes in. Jesus is god (add the holy ghost for trinity). So God came down to earth, put on flesh and started telling everyone the new law (his ministry) and that everyone can go to heaven through him.
Question 2.
To be honest, I only know what is taught in schools about other religions. I will, however, start learning about them in the near future. But from a biblical standpoint, yes. If you don’t follow the teachings of Christ you are, sadly, living a life that in the end is meaningless.
Question 3.
It’s not “their way” it’s “his way”. He made it to where everyone can go to heaven by a few simple words, and asking for forgiveness. Before Jesus the only way to get to heaven was if you were handpicked by God because you did your best to live they way he wanted. Christians seem to be the only group to follow the teachings of Christ. (for those who say they follow him but are not Christian, look up the meaning of the word).
True. I do believe that there is a God, and that Jesus came down to earth, but I'm not questioning that as much as the medium his word is conveyed through. Even if you believe God is perfect, he had imperfect men and followers write the Bible. I believe personally that God interacted with every religion and planted grains of truth in every one. However, I believe that you should trust your own moral compass along with the Bible to guide you. Do I necessarily believe that God created Adam and Eve out of thin air and gave them the garden of Eden. No. I think that it would suit our sense of delusion to think so, but I believe that God set up the whole works, The big bang, evolution, every single thing that led to this life today! I also don't believe that God created us superior to every single thing living. Again most of this is from the old testament so I do get what you're getting at. I don't consider myself a accepted Christian because of those beliefs.
Also, may I applaud you on your well-reasoned discussion and not blowing up in my face when I discuss my beliefs. For example.. Guest/baloney man below! :/ I live in a very very rural community with some of the worst hypocrite Christians so I don't talk to people about this very often.
What if I told you that I too believe that's how God created everything? Big bang = god said "let there be light". Evolution in the way that is taught in schools? No. But more so, adaption.
You know what's funny? I've been criticized by both side for those beliefs. It just adds proof that people aren't who they say they are. Especially accepting.
And your welcome. I prefer a reasoned debate over a heated pigeon argument.
Also, thank you. I've recently (about three weeks ago) started reading apologetics and this was a good debate on a heavily touched subject.
That's it, this comment section has done it for me. I am sick and tired of funsubstance BS x_x please stop attacking us christians, us straight peopel, us white people.it really makes me feel worthless.
I really want to know what I did or said that offended you. I apologize if any of my comments were offensive.

No look it's not you in particular, when I come on FS and see these pro satan posts it makes me feel 'embarassed' to be christian almost then my stomach churns and I feel like crap. (I know they're jokes but either some douchebag athiest or some asshole christian on this site has to say something to offend one or other side and it starts in a fight)
Not to make you made, but you should never be embarrassed in something you believe in. If a post can change your mind, maybe your believing in the wrong thing.

It's not changing my mind it just makes me see us in a bad light as if the whole of the athiest community just sees us as jokes...
And... how many jokes are made about atheists, or Muslims, or Hindu, or Buddhism,... This is not seeing Christians in a bad light it is discussing a topic!
This is so relevant in my life right now, because we had to pick a religion to study at school, and I wanted to do satanism because I know it's actually not bad but my teacher didn't believe me and wouldn't let me.
FFS not this again... How many times does one need to tell the people of Funsubstance that Satan is NOT a good guy. It doesn't matter how much good you do if you worship him you are going to burn in hell, period.
So you're an Atheist that's a different story. And they're not supposed to try to scare you they are just suppose to tell you the trueth and let you do with it what you want. If someone is a Satanist they are asking for eternal torture (sory for the bad grammer).
But that's the thing, it's truth to you because you believe it but to me it is just another story book of tales. I see religion these days much the same as how we now see Greek mythology, a couple thousand years from now everyone sill be laughing about how you guys used some old book to justify owning slaves, to hate on gay people and to start wars.
Oh how wrong you are. You see, it was the landowners who used the bible to justify owning slaves because they wanted more money. Just because they say they are christian and are saying something from the bible does not mean that what they are saying is what it is and is justifieable. It is true that if you are enslaved that you should listen to your master, but that does not justify going around and enslaving people and then telling them that "Jesus said do what I say". Let me remind you of something that a lot of athiests like to forget. CHRISTIANITY IS NOT VOID OF HIPOCRACY, AND THERE WILL BE PEOPLE WHO USE IT TO GET WHAT THEY WANT.
I have read the bible. No I did not prove the guest's point. What I was talking about is that you don't go and look at a whole group and accuse them of being things or doing things that you perceive to be true. Like saying all Germans are hateful Nazis, is it true because of the Nazi reign during WW2? No, it's not. Make sure you know all of the people of a group before you judge the whole group.
True..., but saying all people will go to hell because they simply belong to a different group than you is the same thing you are accusing us of. However, the point remains that many people use Christianity as an excuse to rape, murder, destroy, and hate because you can always be forgiven. However, I do not believe you should be enticed or threatened with going to hell or heaven as a reward or punishment! If you truly believe in the message of the Bible, you need to be your own judge and take responsibility for your actions, not merely waiting for heavenly judgement! The bible is meant as a mere guide for your actions, because if you take it literally or out of context, it can be used for horrible things. The whole reason the bible says that pork is unclean for ex, is back then they couldn't cook it well enough and people started to die.
These are oatmeal raisin cookies
That's just mean
No seriously, that was a joke, we have good cookies. You just have to sell your soul to me.

Not hiding our virtues under a shroud of meaningless poetry, and respecting the rules of safe boundaries, since for fucking ever.
See what i did there :D
I think she just misunderstood guest's comment.
