There was teen pregnancy back then as well. But the girls just went to a convent up state and everyone they knew was told they are visiting an aunt or grandmother or some thing like that. Their baby was taken from them and they came back acting like nothing happen. My grandmother told me about her best friend in high school who for their sophomore year visited her "Aunt Martha". The girl had no aunt Martha.
I agree that's really wrong, but I think it's not far from how wrong it is to give these teens a TV show and make profit out of their lives and misery. Of course there were other things like racial and sexual discrimination, but just like any other era, the 50's too had their charm. Maybe our grandchildren will say how awesome our days were, and we'll tell them a similar story that will make them wonder.
If we just cut out the discrimination from then I think it was a pretty sweet time. Look at how cute all the clothes were and the hair and diners and milkshake bars and everything just seemed so cute.
My town has this really sweet 50's diner. My friends and I like to go there dressed in old dresses and drink milshake. It's an amazing place, and it's also where my boyfriend and I had our first date :)
