I feel like this should be common practise everywhere. Except some assholes would take advantage of the open space and cock everything up

that's how you're SUPPOSED to react when you hear ambulance sirens.

In some countries you move to the sides to let them through but it's not as extreme as this. Like everyone doesn't make a massive path like that

Its a law in my state that you have to move over for any emergency vehicles, if you're driving on the interstate and a cop or tow truck is on the side you have to move over a lane and slow down 10 mph.

We found out from a friend that you can get a ticket if you don't move to another lane for a stopped police car.

Yep its a $175 fine and two strikes on your license here. The cop also reserves the right to arrest you for endangerment if he/she chooses but they rarely do.

This is how it is in the us too. Except there really no need to stop. Just get out of the number 1 lane.

US driver here. It is the law to move to the side of the road for any emergency vehicle that has its sirens on. I've seen it done in every state I've been to.

It's common in a lot of countries, difference being how perfect the Germans perform this action. Best drivers in the world in my opinion.

Attach an ambulance siren to your car. Never get stuck in traffic again.

There is a hold-up because of the accident, that's why it looks like this.
