I attend church regularly, but when anyone brings up homosexuality I always answer, "Yanno, maybe it would seem like more a matter of faith and less a matter of hate if we protested divorce the same way we protest same-sex marriage." The Bible also says to care for the stranger sojourner, yet conservative Christians also seem to be vocal about illegal immigrants. Maybe if we behaved like we believed what we say we believe, we wouldn't look like a bunch of assholes.
I actually totally agree with this post (even tho the bible actually does talk about the death of gays X: sorry) that has been my argument to my school to try to get them to lay off the bashing of homosexuality and transgendered. In the same passage they say that homosexualality is a sin that should be shamed, they also emphasize very clearly that the same punishment should go to anyone who is not in a marriage with one woman, and one man. How many wives did Jacob have? Two? And than slept with one or both of their servants? (I'm a little rusty on the specifics but my point is clear) he went to heaven, and god forgave him. Why should homosexuality be any different ESPECIALLY because god says over and over again all sin is equal???
huh...you're right...

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men
-
The words men who have sex with men translate two Greek words that refer to the passive and active participants in homosexual acts.

I'm gonna have to delve a bit into this...check for context.
So as far as I gather, there seems to be a general consensus about the inaccuracy of translating from the Greek. However, it is also generally agreed that homosexual behavior is a sin, but homosexuality is not; the inaccuracy in translations made it seem as if the two were one and the same. Literally translated, it seems that it only means gay activities but says nothing about lesbian activities.
The entire idea of Christianity is forgiveness, acceptance, love, and tolerance. If you exude these four qualities for all people, you're 90% Christian. However, this passage seems to contain a discrepancy regarding all of these ideas and I want to know why, or if it's being misinterpreted (or read out of context) and what it really means.
The entire idea of Christianity is obedience to God and repentance from sin, even unto death. Love and forgiveness do not mean total acceptance of all lifestyles. The hardest part of Christianity is simply telling people that they are wrong and they need to change. Jesus said that the world would dedpise His followers because He tells the world it is dead wrong. Even Jesus made a whip and flogged the salesmen running businesses in the synagog. The problem with modern neo-Christianity comes when people don't want to give up their habits that God expressly demands, or they don't want to tell people lovingly that they are wrong and must repent to please God. But regardless, they still want a soft religion, so they start to find ways to make the Bible mean what they want it to. Look, either take what it says or leave it alone altogether. Young's Literal trsnslation of the Bible is an extremely accurate rendition of Biblical texts. Enjoy.
I'm pretty sure punch is right. Also, Jesus never attacked the businessmen in the synagogue. He just yelled and shouted a bunch and made a scene but didn't actually hurt anyone. I think...
Pretty sure? Go look it up. Jesus fashioned a whip and drove the sellers out of the synagogue. And Christians are not to judge people, rather they are to judge the fruit of their lives. Why do I bother? Go find out. Read the New Testament straight through, in Young's literal, at biblegateway dotcom
whospikedthepunch: The bible does not claim that Christians have no right to judge, instead it says: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For the measure you use, it will be measured back to you." no, this does not mean that Christians are not to judge, however, it is a warning saying that by judging others, they will be judged in return.
Not judging others can be harder than we think. For instance, police read body language to predict if someone is lying. We, as a society, are taught by schools to do the same to each other. Reading body language actually comes from the same source as reading tarot cards. So the authorities, in deciding whether or not a msn is going to spend his life in prison, roll bones to tell the truth!!! And, to some extent, the citizenry also judge each other based on a standard that has as much validity as a newspaper horoscope. We must must must realize the extent of "judging" in our own lives as individuals before religion even equates in, or we also are hypocrites. No one is a mind reader. When someone is acting a little off, remember that infinite factors made them who they are, and that "personality types" are only so much palm reader witchcraft.
Judging I think is meant as judging someone's spirituality and righteousness. You could argue that authority judges people's righteousness in court, but didn't the Bible say somewhere that authority given to people by God is allowed to do so or something along those lines?
All authority on earth is ordained by God. God is a God of order. So anofficer has the job if enforcing law. But if a Cop murders (just an example; I have known very good cops) do you think God lets it slide because he wears a badge? On the contrary, Matthew 24:45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth
So from a Christian perspective, there is no difference between false accusation in court, and assumption on a personal level. According to that scripture, all authoritarians of any rank or subtle shade are servants of God, whether they believe in Him or not. And they are eternally accountable for their indescretion, whether a judge, a president, a Sunday school teacher, a father, a school principal, or a DMV employee.
False accusation yes. False accusation is so incredibly spiteful it's disgusting. But I was talking about due process of the law: a trial by a jury of peers, access to a competent legal representative, ect.
This is alright, correct as per "all authority on earth is ordained by god"?
It's just trying to make the religion look far better than it really is
Down vote me I don't care
