Philosophy isn't really a thing now-a-days that earns you respect. You can't really do much with that degree besides write a book. It's about as useful as a women's studies course.
I disagree. In the age of never before seen ethical issues like cloning, stem cell research and artificial intelligence, I think there's as much room as ever for philosophy to make important changes to the way we go forward. I do think philosophy is undervalued, but that's not a problem of the discipline, it's a problem of the way people perceive it.
