Obviously they forgot the infamous original War of yhe World radio broadcast....Though that was intended to be taken as truth.

It wasn't as chaotic as all the stories you hear though. A lot of peope didn't believe it at all.

Yeah I thought of that too....and there were a significant portion of people who did think it was real. Real enough to cause panic.

When the TV was still in black and white, a Swedish news anchor made it his april fool that you could get colour TV by taping a nylon stocking over the screen. Rumor has it that nylon stocking were sold out in shops all over the country that same night.

They did something similar in Norway. Told people that if you turned off all of your lamps but one, you could get color

In Norway, we have this thing called a "wine monopoly" which is a store run by the government that is the only establishment allowed to sell alcoholic drinks over 4.75%. So on april the 1st 1950, the wine monopoly announced that they needed to get rid of a lot of wine, so if people showed up with something to put the wine in, they would get it for free. So thousands of people showed up with buckets and wheelbarrels in Oslo.
