According to statistic of murder rates in Chicago alone show that the number of deaths from unregistered guns is higher than any other death. Guns aren't the problem people are. Those that want to do damage will always find a way.
But how much harder? How many of these people are using guns that they don't legally own to begin with? They're already getting them illegally. So how is making them illegal going to change it?
IN MY OPINION If you think you can just get rid of guns you just might be an idiot. Drugs are illegal..do you think that means people can't get them? Giving murderers the notoriety that the media does fuels these awful and theatrical outbursts.
There's actually been quite a few gun regulations passed since Columbine. A small number compared to the number of bills proposed, but some gun regulations have passed. Passing laws to make something that's already illegal more illegal doesn't stop anything. Look at the war on drugs.
What else is he expecting to change? Schools are already gun-free zones -- the equivalent of airports not allowing you to wear shoes AT ALL. How much more strict can you get than zero tolerance?
At least airports have the common sense to assume that people who want to do harm won't follow the rules, and prepare accordingly. Maybe schools should do the same.
