Either the moon reflects only wavelengths of light that aren't harmful to vampires, or there is an intensity threshold for brightness which, once exceeded, harms vampires.

Yeah, I always just assumed it was because it's indirect, maybe it still harms them a bit, but to a lesser degree so it's at least manageable and/or not noticeable.

Because it has to be "direct" sunlight. Or light with uv waves in it. If moon light would hurt them than they could be hurt by any light source.

Because it's only a REFLECTION of actual sunlight. Just like you can look at Medusa in a mirror!

Because the moon is a giant mirror, and mirrors don't work on vampires.

Well in ancient folklore, the moon was seen to be the opposite of the sun, even though we now know it isn't

For the same reason they can survive in the shade. It's not so much as sunlight as, strong sunlight.
