They probably get paid less because a girl with a 1200 SAT has a higher chance of getting a STEM education in college than a man with a 2400, due to affirmative action. This results in fucking dumbasses getting into STEM feilds. Thus, they earn less money due to having less actual merit (gender unfortunately doesn't contribute to merit).
^^Thank you. Even if more females entered into the engineering field, they'd still make less than men. /That's/ the wage gap people are talking about: working in the same field doing the same job and still getting paid less- the wage gap isn't about a female philosophy major making less than a male doctor. Don't know why people get this confused all the time.
Actually no, all studies that control for profession and education (female doctor to male doctor) show that there is no actual wage gap. You're welcome for the free education.
I guess my sociology book and my sociology professor at my university who has a Ph.D are both wrong then, considering we covered wage gap in class and all the studies we went over showed that in every field, men consistently made more than their female counterparts.
Welcome to today! Do it like Trump has pefectioned it: just fucking lie and keep on lying, regardless of all evidence. There is no wage gap. There is no racism. There is no climate change. Feminists are now feminazis. Evolution is just another religion. You have one study to prove your point? Ignore the thousands that aren't.
There is no wage gap, racism still exists, climate change exists, feminists are not needed in western society, and evolution is a real thing. We all know this.
Exactly. Wage gap is caused by undequalified women getting into college through affirmative action, and the 'evidence' includes things like maternity leave to make the woman's pay look worse. Racism is still a huge problem. Feminists need to move to the Middle East if they truly care about women's rights, or they should just admit that they want to just benefit themselves like the selfish pricks they are. Evolution is the most plausible theory explaining the origin of species, that currently exists.
The feminists are against facts because they don't help them achieve their goals. If feminists were real, they'd do protests and shit in places where women are ACTUALLY oppressed, like any country in the damn Middle East. But no, that's too fucking dangerous! Plus they don't give a flying fuck about helping women in need. They just want to make the lives of their fellow starbucks drinking, women's studies majoring, self victimizing, easily offended women easier. So when a 'feminist' claims they are for women's rights, they actually are saying that they want to make their first-world lives even easier.
Tell me one modern feminist (aside from Malala Yousefzai, who doesn't fall into the category of feminists I was talking about) who's actually helped women (or anyone else)
Equality means that we get the same. Justice means we get what we need/deserve. I think it was man that pointed out affirmative action; we don't need affirmative action. I think it's a horrible thing. You should not get in because you're black, female, brown, yellow, or not straight. You don't deserve to go to college as much as this guy with a perfect standardized test score, lots of extracurriculars, 4.0 student, and all that glitter and pizzaz. But he gets kicked because we need to fill a spot for a brown transgender student (or not because nobody would kick out an applicant of that caliber but whatever).
No, I've always hated that differences that can't be helped are used for or against people. People should only be judged on what they do, not what they are. Your SAT score sucks? Too bad. You're gay? That's amazing now go away I'm busy grinding this bar of metal into a knife.
You're an idiot if you think that your race defines you as a person more than your actual merit as a human being. You are what is wrong with this world. Do you think it is fair for a white guy with a 2100 Sat and a 3.7 gpa to be rejected, while a native American who lived in the same neighborhood got in with a 1500 and a 3.1? Do you truly believe that one race is more 'worthy' than another? I doubt you have truly thought about anything at all in your miserable life, you mindless cretin. Go back to twiddling your thumbs and hoping that affirmative action will make sure you don't ever have to try hard in your life.
Basically, if i'm hiring for aeronautical engineers, do I take the straight guy who went to college for a degree and got all straight A's, or do I take someone who is gay, and has worse education overall than the first fellow. Only a stupid person would take the second person. I'm not picking on the latter because of his sexuality, i'm not choosing him because the first was a better option for my business. Other places hold more emphasis on culture rather than merit, and many who were more fit for the position are swapped out to make the place seem more "diversified" That's the problem I have.
Diversity is such a shit idea. Merit is the only thing that should matter in the academic and business world. If you want your social life to be diverse, go ahead and make friends from all six corners of the world. You make connections and learn to be sensitive and all that nice stuff. But business and academics don't need that. They're solely based on how far you can get on your own and how much you can do for your boss.
It's like picking between a red $100 crappy calculator and a blue $100 amazing calculator, and picking the red calculator because the rest of your supplies are already blue.
I personally believe that you can turn anything into a career as long as you are passionate about it. If someone's passion is feminist dance therapy, what's wrong with that? Coming from a Society, Ethics, and Human Behavior major I just don't see anything wrong with it
. . . Anyway. You have to think realistically. There's nothing wrong with majoring in something like "feminist dance therapy", if that's a thing; if that's what you're passionate about, then fuck yeah you should pursue it! But you should probably major in something else as well, have something to fall back on, because even if you love it, something like that probably won't make you a lot of money.
And to calmthelovelytits (awesome name btw) I once heard someone say that if you have a plan b then that means that you are preparing for failure and are not pursuing your goals to the fullest that you can be
Just playing Devil's Advocate honestly haha, I plan on going police force while continuing my education in Abnormal Psychology and would like to bring that to the FBI one day. If that goes wrong my time in the USNSCC would get me a great spot in the Navy so I can pursue my other dream career as a Navy Diver. I guess I have multiple plans to fall back on haha so I'm kind of a hypocrit
Well hey, it sounds like you have things figured out pretty well! That's awesome! :) (I realize that might sound sarcastic, but I'm serious. Those sound like really cool career goals!) I don't know where you heard all that stuff about how having a plan B is a bad thing, but that seems a bit silly to me. If anything, I think it would make you more prepared for the future, since you never really know what could happen so it's good to have a backup plan or two. And thanks for the compliment, I like your name too.
Insecure? Hell yes of course I'm very insecure! Its unfortunate but true. I commented three times because I am very prideful and feel it necessary to defend that. So let me continue with my defense because of course after I convince you that my life means something I'll be just fine! /s
My major is SEB, and I'm minoring in Human Rights. The department that it is under has stressed multiple times that this major is meant for people that wish to pursue leadership roles in the community, which is what I am pursuing as an officer. I'm not getting a Criminal Justice degree because its only applicable to one or two careers. SEB can be applied to a dozen or so careers. And I graduated high school with an Associates for free, so, I'm a junior in college, meaning I'm about $30,000 ahead of everyone else lol
kniggity the problem isn't that feminist dance routines are bad (nobody said they were). The issue is that if you want change, help the change. Don't complain about it while doing something entirely unrelated.
Oh yea I agree with that entirely! But it is true that whether or not it's feminist dance therapy or software engineering, females are paid less. I mean, getting paid less for feminist dance therapy is simply a wage difference, a female McDonalds worker is paid less than a male that works for Boeing and that's not a wage gap due to sex its due to career choice. So, really, its just poor word choice on the original post.
Yeah women get paid less overall, but thats because they generally choose low paying jobs/majors (like teaching). You can look up all the statistics cuz there is a ton of them. The wage gap really is a myth
