Take note that the stronger your connection to the force, the stronger the pull of the darkside. The darkside doesn't need you if you aint got enough juice to be an asset.

But Leia could easily be a Force user, she just never trained.

She had a connection yes, but her connection isn't as strong as Luke's. Its evident, even when she does start her training in the books (take the Thrawn storylines) she has much more trouble mastering the finer aspects than him.

Remember, Luke's life practically mirrored Anakin's, but he made key decisions for the light side, rather than the dark.
