Who can honestly believe it's a "fact"? There is no definition of what "beautiful" is, and there are a very few people that find themselves more attractive than they really are.
I think it kinda depends on the person's confidence

Yea... someone just made that up. We do have an evolutionary lean to find those who look like us attractive. This was probability to make us protect our own tribe and not Romeo and Julieting it in cave man times...
"five times" is an exaggeration - in studies, on a scale of one to ten, the average person rates themselves about two points higher than the average stranger will rate them.
I remember there was a difference, but I don't perfectly remember which way it skewed, sadly. I want to say men were slightly more likely to overrate themselves unless makeup got involved on the female side of the line.
