This always really makes me wonder..They just quit? How long do you have to study to become a teacher in the US? If I ever wanted to quit being a teacher, i'd have wasted 7,5 years of my life..( 5-6 years of uni and 1.5 years oft instructed teaching in Germany)
in america its a 4yr college degree at least, depending on what grade you teach, and you need to test your certification prior. this education includes teaching externships in different areas of concentration.
In the UK you can complete an undergraduate degree with the teaching qualification woven in (as I did) or a 1 year course after 3 year degree at uni or you can now train 'on the job' in about 12 weeks or schools can even just employ unqualified teachers now, it is not a valued profession here sadly.
Thought of this immediately.
