Words don't contain any natural power. They only contain the power that you give them. Cunt and twat, for example, are more commonly used in England than the US. Even in the United States the term God Dam* is more offensive in the south than the north. The point is, language acceptance in different regions, ethnic groups, and a social cliches. You can't impose your own offense on someone else, especially on the internet which involves the worlds population.
I don't think the words themselves are hurtful to people as they ARE just words. I think that it's more the meaning behind them. The fact that someone went out of their way to dip into their lesser vocabulary and make an attempt to hurt someone else. It's rude. And, also, just because some people aren't offended by these words doesn't mean that others feel the same way.
Been going thru his tweets... man, this guy seriously needs to get laid. But hmm... even with the obscene shitload of money he has,, not even a gold digger getting his pole wet? How come Jabba the Hutt lookalike Kim Dotcom got game, and the notch doesn't? Seems his Al-Bundy-esque tweets show the nicer part of his personality...
Why do people always make so much effort to prove women wrong? Nobody gives a fuck if "cunt" offends you or not, it is a sexist word.
Not being offended does not make you a special snow flake, we live in a VERY sexist world and women MUST complain whenever they feel like it.
This week in my country a girl got raped by 33 men and everyone is trying to blame her, because of this fucking idiotic mentality.
LET WOMEN SPEAK.
I do have to disagree with the idea that words contain no inherent power. words with "k" sound are more aggressive (see George Carlin's seven dirty words) Were as if you look at the poem the Raven, Poe used "nevermore" "chamber door" "nothing more" because they sounded mournful.
When authors tell a story, they use words to convey feeling and emotion, to connect the reader to what's going on. it's better to read/hear the words "He passionately loved her" than to hear or read "He really liked her". Being called insultory terms have no long term meaning, it's to make you very uncomfortable and unhappy with little effort. They only work when a specific phrase does make you feel like shit, and once you realize that it is a natural thing to learn to ignore them, they lose all power. You could scream at me all day calling me whatever you wanted, it wouldn't matter. Getting into a hissyfit about "cunt" or "bitch" is about as mature as kid saying "Girls are icky" with someone getting mad about that. You don't scream the kids face telling them to stop, you politely inform them not to say those things, reasonably.
Yea, keep telling yourself that. If anyone was really interested in mindfucking you, it'd just a matter of time to find your trigger. This works best with people who really convinced themselves to be invulnerable. Same as hypnotists have best results with people who know for sure this couldn't work with them,
.
Also, if you weren't such a simpleton, you'd know this is not about the usage of specific words, its about an attitude displayed by using certain words.
If the attitude is the problem, don't respond to it. Getting upset about it provokes more of that behavior. It's an inverse law not much care to learn about. Shouting back or trying to censor any word, no matter how profane it may be, will only lead to a outburst of spiteful activity. The best way is to nonchalantly ignore it, let it lose it's toxicity and diffuse into a useless world like simpleton or slow.
As I said: keep telling yourself that. I don't actually mind provoking "more of that" as it might help exposing people as what they are. Attitudes show in words, and reacting with words can help expose that attitude even more. If you don't feel involved or addressed, just shut it.
Your attitude will make sure that words like "Cunt" and "Bitch" never lose their power. it doesn't matter how much of an ass you reveal yourself to be on the internet. It's the internet, who gives a damn about Profile#34127? Provoking doesn't stop any action most of the time. It makes an action happen, it's the catalyst. John bain, a games reviewer better known as the Cynical Brit, disabled the comments on his youtube channel years back because he thought it was a dumb place to have a discussion. He instead directed his viewer base to his sub reddit, where they could post about his videos all they wanted as long as they followed the sub reddit rules. Catch was, you had to lurk for a week before you posted, to learn from others what the general etiquette was. it stopped trolls from coming over because who wants to wait a week to get their kicks? and if they did, they would get banned eventually, and have to wait for another week to try again. It stopped unwelcome guests, and behavior.
It's relevant because it stopped undesired behavior. Instead of shouting at them how what they were doing made them bad people, he limited what they could do, and made potential problems lose interest in stirring the pot. It's much better than calling someone out to try to get them to stop. You are going to meet maybe a couple of people who could be stopped with that logic, only because they can be guilted into submission. The rest will just flip you the bird and continue saying those words only because you brought it up. To stop behavior, don't acknowledge it. The internet is a lot like cats in one behavioral regard. they don't actually learn from getting bad actions punished, like peeing all over the place, knocking stuff over, they learn from being rewarded for good behavior. You give a treat to them to reinforce them doing that action, as opposed to squirting them over the head with a water bottle to get them to stop.
"It's relevant because it stopped undesired behavior" - Are you really that super stupid and oblivious? It is NOT about people saying bad things. The behavior that needs to be addressed is not saying bad words, that is just a symptom. "Just take an aspirin and your headaches will go away" - isn't really sound advice when you got a brain tumor. So while I am happy for you that you learned to deal with the bullies in school that call you whatever they call you, how about you just shut the fuck up when people talk about real issues? Or don't, whatever. "The internet is a lot like cats"? Boy oh boy oh boy...
Fsuser. Get the fuck out. Go back to that shithole tumblr. Your retardation enraged everyone here, and your delusion compounds it infinitely. You are a worthless idiot who deserves to spend the last of their days in the dregs of society. You're disgusting, unintelligent, delusional, and a mindless follower of anyone who labels themselves as a feminist. You don't deserve the air you breathe or the earth upon which you stand.
Fsuser, you don't really answer anything. I'm not advising aspirin for a tumor, I'm recommending it because it's a really bad headache. And this isn't a disease, where treating symptoms does nothing. Stop the first step, and the second won't be taken. It's stages, and if you interrupt earlier stages, the later ones can't happen. Telling me to be quiet when people talk about issues is childish, and an admittance that they are not comfortable being challenged on topics or issues. You don't even argue with my Internet is Cats theory, you just assume there are enough spectators who agree with you so you don't have to actually address it.
Look tnathers, I repeatedly tried to get across that this is not about using words, so ignoring those words would exactly change jack shit, and you didn't get it, so why keep on trying? I'm not your teacher nor your parent, so why should I give any further fucks whether you can follow or not? You don't have what I require for someone to discuss with, so I tell you to get lost. You prefer to babble on? Knock yourself out, it's an open space here. Just don't expect me to treat you like a peer, cause you're fucking not.
I've addressed how to stop behavior. In detail. Words and behavior are interlinked. I don't have what it takes to agree endlessly with you? How weird that would be. Follow orders and never step out of line, never question, always obey? It's like this discussion you want is just a big echo chamber where I just mirror your stance on everything, and never challenge you think
Someone who complains when someone makes an anti-PC post, just to make sure that opinions that don't match their own do not gain traction. Generally, people who act like this possess the 'tumblr feminist' mentality, in which everything that disagrees with the holder of that mentality is a bigot and an enemy.
Actually I attacked you based on how you portrayed yourself here. As a user once known as one of the most controversial/un-PC people here, your recent comment makes me think you've done a 180 and become the same as the people who once despised you. This, to me, is disgusting.
I respected you back when you weren't the same as the people who once hated you. Dropping your ideals and joining their ranks makes me look down upon you.
Like d*ck, c*nt, whore, slut (why do I always use*?)
But strongly dislike words like 'cheap' 'ugly' 'ignorant'

Thanks for un-funinizing this already dubiously fun website.
I just love to know who I can take seriously around here. Thank you.
Way to victim-blame. -3 respect.
