Also, "grenades" were named for the pomegranate - apparently the shrapnel bits reminded people of pomegranate arils.

In English I'm guessing it's the same origin because pomme is French for apple an in English we got French words coming out of our derrière

Well, pomegranate is french and means Apple Grenade, so it's all the same. In Norwegian too - granateple. It's just that the English language doesn't have it's own word for it.

"Pomegranate" means exactly the same, as "pome" has the same origins as the French word "pomme" meaning "apple".
